A Boyfriend on Loan, A Real Love on Way

EDITORIAL REVIEW / CRITIC'S TAKE

Is A Boyfriend on Loan, A Real Love on Way Worth Your Time?

The premise of "A Boyfriend on Loan, A Real Love on Way" is a tantalizing hook for vertical short drama fans: a contract romance that promises to blossom into something real, all while navigating a minefield of revenge, hidden identity, and betrayal. From the first episode, the show grabs attention with its high-stakes setup—a loan agreement that binds two people in a fake relationship—and the promise of a satisfying comeuppance for the scheming stepsister. The narrative momentum is relentless, with each short episode ending on a cliffhanger that makes it nearly impossible not to click "next." It's the kind of addictive, fast-paced storytelling that short-form audiences crave, and the show delivers it with style.

Community discussions across Reddit, MyDramaList, and platform reviews reveal a consensus that the drama excels in delivering guilty-pleasure entertainment. Fans celebrate the fiery chemistry between the leads and the satisfying arc of the female lead reclaiming her agency. The revenge plot against the stepsister is a particular highlight, with viewers cheering as her schemes unravel in a public spectacle. However, some critics note that the hidden identity trope feels underdeveloped, and the misunderstanding that drives the mid-section can feel contrived. Pacing is generally praised for its briskness, but a few viewers found the melodrama dialed up to eleven in certain episodes, straining credulity. Still, the community agrees that the show knows exactly what it is and leans into its tropes with gusto.

For those who relish a contract-romance with a side of revenge and a heroine who finds her voice, "A Boyfriend on Loan, A Real Love on Way" is a worthwhile binge. It's best suited for fans of vertical dramas who appreciate rapid-fire plot twists and don't mind a bit of over-the-top drama. The replay value is moderate—the climax is satisfying, but the journey there is more about the ride than the destination. At around 55 comments across platforms, the buzz is modest but positive, making it a solid choice for a quick, entertaining escape.
