A Love as Hot as Summer

EDITORIAL REVIEW / CRITIC'S TAKE

Is A Love as Hot as Summer Worth Your Time?

MiniShort's "A Love as Hot as Summer" wastes no time in igniting its revenge-fueled romance, hooking viewers with a tantalizing premise: a wronged woman with a hidden identity as a viral muralist, poised to topple the corrupt CEO who destroyed her family. The early episodes crackle with narrative momentum, doling out clues about Lin Xia's secret artistry and Zhou's embezzlement while simmering with romantic tension between her and the loyal Chen Yu. It's the kind of high-stakes, trope-dense setup that short-form audiences devour, and the show's brisk pacing ensures there's never a dull moment.

Community discussions across Reddit and MyDramaList reveal a consensus that the drama's revenge arc is both its greatest strength and its occasional weakness. Fans celebrate Lin Xia's agency—she's no passive victim but an active architect of Zhou's downfall—and the chemistry between the leads is frequently praised as electric, making their reconciliation feel earned. The hidden identity trope is executed with satisfying reveals, and the betrayal by Zhou and his secretary lands with appropriate venom. However, some viewers note that the melodrama occasionally tips into overdrive, with certain confrontations feeling rushed or implausible, and the pacing in the middle episodes sags as misunderstandings pile up. Still, the live-broadcast downfall of the villains provides a cathartic payoff that many found worth the wait.

Ultimately, "A Love as Hot as Summer" justifies the investment for fans of revenge romance and hidden identity tropes. It's a satisfying binge for those who relish a strong heroine and a swoon-worthy hero, though viewers seeking nuanced storytelling might find the melodrama heavy-handed. The finale's fireworks proposal caps off a journey that, while uneven, delivers the emotional highs short-form drama lovers crave. For a quick, addictive fix, this one earns its place in your queue.
