Cleopatra

EDITORIAL REVIEW / CRITIC'S TAKE

Is Cleopatra Worth Your Time?

Cleopatra on DramaShorts plunges viewers straight into the treacherous waters of ancient Alexandria, where a hidden pharaoh must outmaneuver her scheming brother and his Roman backers. The premise crackles with the promise of revenge and forbidden romance, and the serialized short-form format ensures that every episode ends on a cliffhanger designed to keep thumbs scrolling. Early episodes hook audiences with rapid-fire betrayals and the tantalizing question of when Cleopatra's true identity will be revealed, creating a narrative momentum that feels both urgent and addictive.

Across discussion boards, viewers celebrate the fiery chemistry between Cleopatra and Marc Antony, praising the show for giving its heroine genuine agency in a genre that often reduces women to pawns. The revenge arc is a crowd-pleaser, with each small victory against Ptolemy XIII's faction delivering a satisfying punch. However, the community consensus is not without its caveats: some criticize the pacing as uneven, noting that certain episodes feel like filler while others rush through pivotal confrontations. The hidden identity trope is handled with flair, but the betrayal subplot occasionally veers into melodrama, with characters making choices that strain credulity. Still, fans argue that the show's emotional beats land thanks to strong performances and tight direction, even if the writing sometimes leans on convenience.

For those who relish historical romance with a soapy edge, Cleopatra is a binge-worthy diversion that justifies its coin cost, especially for viewers who enjoy watching a wronged heroine seize her power. The climax delivers a satisfying payoff, with the villains' public disgrace and the lovers' reconciliation providing a neat, if predictable, resolution. While it may not convert skeptics of the vertical format, its replay value is solid for fans of the genre, offering a quick, guilty-pleasure escape that knows exactly what its audience wants.
