In This Life, I Choose You

EDITORIAL REVIEW / CRITIC'S TAKE

Is In This Life, I Choose You Worth Your Time?

The premise of "In This Life, I Choose You" is a siren song for vertical short drama addicts: a wronged heroine, a scheming stepsister, and a hero who fakes his own death to protect her. From the first episode, the show hooks viewers with a classic revenge setup—our protagonist is betrayed, humiliated, and left for dead, only to rise with a secret weapon: a recording that will bring down her enemies. The narrative momentum is relentless, each cliffhanger engineered to keep thumbs scrolling, and the promise of hidden identities and dramatic reveals keeps the emotional stakes high. It's the kind of story that thrives on instant gratification, and MiniShort knows exactly how to deliver it.

Across community boards like Reddit and MyDramaList, viewers are divided on how well the tropes are executed. Many celebrate the heroine's agency—she's not a passive victim but an active architect of her revenge, and her chemistry with the hero, once he returns, is palpable. The stepsister and her mother are deliciously hateful, and their downfall is satisfying. However, critics point out that the middle episodes drag with repetitive misunderstandings and melodramatic padding, and the hero's faked death feels contrived even by genre standards. Some also note that the reconciliation is rushed, with the foundation and pregnancy epilogue feeling tacked on. Still, the community consensus is that the show delivers on its core promise: cathartic revenge and a swoony romance.

For those who crave high-stakes revenge with a side of hidden identity and betrayal, "In This Life, I Choose You" is a solid binge. It's not without flaws—pacing issues and occasional over-the-top moments—but the payoff is worth the coins. Best suited for fans of vertical dramas who enjoy a fierce heroine and a devoted hero, this one offers decent replay value for its standout confrontations. If you're in the mood for a quick, emotionally charged fix, this drama justifies the time.
