My Brother's Contract Girlfriend is My Mermaid Bride

EDITORIAL REVIEW / CRITIC'S TAKE

Is My Brother's Contract Girlfriend is My Mermaid Bride Worth Your Time?

Harper, a diva with a secret mermaid tail, returns to find her boyfriend Rhett engaged to her rival—so she does the only logical thing: poses as his brother Leo's contract girlfriend. What follows is a deliciously absurd cocktail of jealousy, identity crisis, and supernatural melodrama. The premise alone promises high camp and higher stakes, and DramaBox's 51-episode vertical format ensures every beat is maximized for maximum swoon and scandal. It's the kind of setup that hooks you with its sheer audacity, daring you to look away from the trainwreck of love and lies.

Audiences are eating it up, with community threads buzzing over Rhett's tortured "I hate you but I can't quit you" routine and the mermaid lore that adds a ticking clock to the romance. The contract girlfriend trope gets a fresh twist with the added layer of sibling rivalry and a literal sea creature's curse—because nothing says true love like turning into foam. Fans praise the chemistry between Harper and Rhett, even as they roll their eyes at his stubbornness. The show leans hard into the jealous ex, the secret identity, and the ultimate sacrifice, but it's the mermaid transformation that keeps viewers glued, wondering if love can truly conquer biology. It's tropey, it's over-the-top, and it's unapologetically addictive.

As a critic, I have to tip my hat to a drama that knows exactly what it is: a gloriously messy fairy tale for the TikTok generation. The pacing is relentless, the emotions are dialed to eleven, and the mermaid angle gives it a unique flavor in a sea of contract romances. While the writing occasionally drowns in its own melodrama, the sheer commitment to the bit makes it a worthwhile guilty pleasure. If you're here for logic, you're in the wrong ocean—but if you're here for a wild ride of love, lies, and literal fish tales, dive in.
