Once Mistaken, Forever His
Is Once Mistaken, Forever His Worth Your Time?
The premise of "Once Mistaken, Forever His" is a siren call to vertical short drama addicts: a classic tale of mistaken identity, hidden wealth, and delicious revenge. From the first episode, the show hooks viewers with its high-stakes misunderstanding—the hero dismissing the heroine as a gold digger when she's actually a conglomerate heiress—and the promise of a spectacular comeuppance. The narrative momentum is relentless, each cliffhanger pulling you deeper into the web of betrayal and secrets. It's the kind of guilty pleasure that keeps you clicking 'next episode' well past midnight.
Community discussions across Reddit and MyDramaList reveal a consensus that the drama delivers on its core tropes, albeit with familiar execution. Fans celebrate the heroine's agency and the satisfying reveal at the engagement gala, where she publicly exposes her stepsister's sabotage and claims her rightful identity. The chemistry between the leads is often praised, though some viewers note that the hero's groveling feels a tad rushed. The revenge arc is deliciously over-the-top, but pacing issues arise in the middle episodes, where melodrama threatens to stall the plot. The stepsister and her mother make for delightfully hateable villains, and their arrest is met with cheers, but the hero's jealous ex feels underdeveloped. Overall, audiences enjoy the ride but acknowledge the tropes are played straight, with few surprises.
As a critic, I find "Once Mistaken, Forever His" a solid entry in the vertical drama canon—it knows its audience and delivers the goods. The 80-episode commitment is steep, but the binge-worthiness is high, especially for those who relish over-the-top revenge and hidden identity plots. It's not groundbreaking, but it's undeniably entertaining. If you're a fan of the genre, it's worth your coins; if you're new, it's a decent introduction. Just be prepared for some melodramatic detours.
