RAISED BY REX

Is RAISED BY REX Worth Your Time?

What if a paleontologist woke up as the adopted daughter of a T-Rex? That's the delightfully bonkers premise of RAISED BY REX, a 36-episode vertical short drama on NetShort that hooks viewers with its fish-out-of-water absurdity and surprisingly tender family dynamics. The early episodes waste no time establishing Emma's predicament: she's a human in a prehistoric nest, armed only with scientific knowledge and a lot of nerve. The show's momentum comes from watching her navigate survival while winning over her reptilian family, and the cliffhanger-driven format keeps the dopamine hits coming. It's the kind of high-concept silliness that short-form audiences devour, and the pacing rarely lets up.

Community discussions across Reddit and MyDramaList reveal a consensus that RAISED BY REX thrives on its earnest heart and Emma's agency. Fans celebrate her strategic mind—especially in the climax where she uses paleontological know-how to outsmart a rival raptor pack—and the chemistry between Emma and her adoptive siblings (Pip, Ash, and Dot) is frequently praised as the show's secret weapon. The tropes are handled with a wink: hidden identity, betrayal, and even a touch of revenge (against the rival pack) are executed with satisfying efficiency. However, critics note that the middle episodes sag under repetitive misunderstandings and melodramatic beats, with some feeling the human-vs-dinosaur tension gets resolved too neatly. Still, the overall sentiment is warm, with viewers appreciating the show's commitment to its weird premise.

For those who love fantasy, time travel, and sweet romance (yes, there's a hint of that too), RAISED BY REX is a worthwhile binge. It's not without flaws—the pacing stumbles and the melodrama can feel forced—but the charm of Emma's journey and the surprisingly emotional finale make it a satisfying ride. If you're a fan of vertical dramas that embrace their absurdity while delivering genuine character moments, this one justifies the coins. Binge it for the dinosaur family feels and the clever twist on the 'chosen one' trope.
