Study Buddy

Is Study Buddy Worth Your Time?

CandyJar's "Study Buddy" opens with a premise that feels engineered for the vertical short drama audience: a nerdy artist and a baseball star enter a secret tutoring arrangement that inevitably blurs the lines between academia and attraction. The early episodes hook viewers with the thrill of hidden glances and whispered study sessions, building narrative momentum through the promise of a contract that can't contain their growing chemistry. It's a classic setup, but the show's execution—pairing academic ambition with athletic swagger—creates an irresistible tension that keeps audiences clicking for the next episode.

Community discussions across Reddit and MyDramaList reveal a consensus that the drama's strength lies in its lead couple's chemistry and the satisfying arc of the baseball star's transformation. Fans celebrate the public confession at the championship game as a standout moment, where he dedicates his victory to his tutor and turns a potential scandal into a declaration of love. The tropes of revenge and betrayal are handled with gleeful melodrama: the jealous rival's sabotage is exposed, leading to her public humiliation, while the former fling's lies are uncovered, leaving both antagonists disgraced. However, some viewers note pacing issues in the middle episodes, where misunderstandings feel stretched thin, and the melodrama occasionally tips into overdrive. Still, the character agency—especially the nerdy artist's growing confidence—resonates, and the satisfying downfall of the villains provides the schadenfreude short-form audiences crave.

For those who relish a well-executed contract-to-love romance with a side of revenge, "Study Buddy" justifies the time and coins. It's best suited for fans of underdog stories and academic-athletic pairings, offering a fast-moving escape with a rewarding payoff. While it may not reinvent the genre, its earnest charm and satisfying conclusion make it a solid addition to the CandyJar lineup—one that earns a replay for its feel-good moments and a rating of 8.3.
