The Oscar Winner Is My Ex

EDITORIAL REVIEW / CRITIC'S TAKE

Is The Oscar Winner Is My Ex Worth Your Time?

The Oscar Winner Is My Ex dangles a deliciously petty fantasy: the ex-husband who was written off as a failure returns as an Oscar-winning director, exposing the wife and her lover who stole his script. MiniShort's vertical format thrives on such high-concept revenge, and the early episodes hook viewers with rapid-fire reveals and a simmering sense of injustice. The narrative momentum is relentless, each cliffhanger engineered to keep thumbs scrolling, as the protagonist's hidden identity becomes a weapon waiting to be unsheathed on the Academy Awards stage.

Community chatter across Reddit and MyDramaList paints a picture of guilty-pleasure satisfaction mixed with eye-rolls at the melodrama. Fans celebrate the cathartic climax—the live broadcast humiliation, the arrests, the schadenfreude—and the loyal ex-girlfriend who believed in him all along, a beacon of sincerity in a toxic Hollywood. Yet critics note that the scheming ex-wife is a cartoon villain, her betrayal so mustache-twirling that it undercuts any real emotional stakes. The chemistry between the leads is sweet but rushed, and the middle episodes sag under repetitive misunderstandings. Still, the trope execution—revenge, hidden identity, betrayal—is textbook short-form: efficient, addictive, and unapologetically trashy.

Verdict: If you crave a quick, satisfying dose of comeuppance with a side of romance, this Oscar winner earns its coins. It's best suited for fans of vertical revenge dramas who don't mind paper-thin villains and plot holes you could drive a limo through. Binge value is high for a single sitting, but replay value is low—once the Oscar is won, the thrill evaporates. A solid 8.3 for delivering exactly what it promises.
