The Ugly Consort's Comeback Plan(English-dubbed)

EDITORIAL REVIEW / CRITIC'S TAKE

Is The Ugly Consort's Comeback Plan(English-dubbed) Worth Your Time?

The Ugly Consort's Comeback Plan dangles a deliciously familiar carrot: a scorned woman hidden behind a disfiguring disguise, secretly a princess, poised to unleash hell on her tormentors. In the first few episodes, MiniShort hooks viewers with rapid-fire humiliation and the promise of a spectacular reveal, each cliffhanger engineered to keep thumbs scrolling. The premise is pure vertical-drama catnip—a wronged heroine with a secret identity and a revenge plan—and the show's breakneck pacing ensures you're never more than a minute away from the next deliciously petty confrontation.

Community chatter across Reddit and MyDramaList reveals a consensus: this is a guilty pleasure that delivers on its promises, albeit with uneven execution. Fans celebrate the female lead's agency—she's no passive victim, and her chemistry with the prince crackles in stolen glances and tense encounters. The revenge beats are satisfyingly vicious, and the hidden-identity trope is milked for maximum dramatic irony. However, critics note that the scheming concubines are cartoonishly villainous, and the melodrama occasionally tips into unintentional comedy. Pacing stumbles in the middle episodes, where misunderstandings pile up so thickly that the plot threatens to suffocate under its own contrivances. Still, the community agrees: when the disguise finally comes off, the payoff is worth the bumpy ride.

For those who relish a well-executed trope salad with a side of schadenfreude, The Ugly Consort's Comeback Plan is a satisfying binge. It won't convert skeptics of the vertical format, but genre devotees will find plenty to savor—especially the cathartic public shaming of the villains and the heroine's hard-won independence. At roughly 90 minutes total, it's a low-commitment thrill ride best enjoyed in one sitting with a friend who appreciates a good eye-roll. Just don't expect subtlety; this is melodrama with the volume cranked to eleven, and sometimes that's exactly what you need.
