EDITORIAL REVIEW / CRITIC'S TAKE
Is Monster in His Eyes Worth Your Time?
ReelShort's "Monster in His Eyes" dangles a deliciously dark hook: a romance built on forbidden attraction to a man who is literally a killer. The premise—Karissa, a woman scarred by abuse, drawn to Naz, whose monstrous exterior hides a protective core—immediately signals taboo pleasures. Early episodes waste no time establishing their charged dynamic, with Naz's possessiveness and Karissa's wary fascination creating a push-pull that keeps viewers clicking. The show's vertical format amplifies every lingering glance and violent interruption, making the narrative momentum feel relentless, even when logic takes a backseat.
Community discussions across Reddit and MyDramaList reveal a consensus: the chemistry between the leads is electric, and the trope execution—hidden identity, revenge, betrayal—is handled with satisfying intensity. Fans celebrate Karissa's eventual agency, particularly her confrontation with her mother and her choice of Naz despite his past. However, critics note pacing issues in the middle stretch, where misunderstandings feel stretched thin, and the melodrama occasionally tips into overwrought territory. The age-gap and taboo elements are divisive; some find them empowering, others squicky. Yet the majority agree that the climax—Naz's violent rescue and the exposure of the mother's complicity—delivers the catharsis the build-up promises.
For those who relish steamy, possessive antiheroes and don't mind a few narrative shortcuts, "Monster in His Eyes" justifies its coin cost. It's best suited for fans of forbidden romance who want their tropes served with a side of danger and a guaranteed happy ending. Binge value is high—68 episodes fly by—though replay appeal may wane once the twists are known. A solid, guilty-pleasure watch.
